Switching maps
By default a dedicated server keeps every map's world in one SavedArks folder, with ONE set of player and tribe files for all of them: a character's level and engrams follow it from map to map. A server started with ?AltSaveDirectoryName=SavedArks/<Map> keeps each map in its own folder instead, with its own players and tribes, and characters only move between maps through a cluster (an obelisk upload on one map, a download on the other).
Our servers do exactly that: every map has its own folder, so switching to another map never touches the first, and switching back finds that world, its characters and its tribes where you left them. Transfers between your server's maps are a switch in the Map tab.
On Flux, the Map tab shows the twelve maps, which have a world already (with how many players and tribes), and whether your plan has the memory for each; Play this map saves the current world and switches in a minute or two. A community map from the Workshop is picked by its ID and keeps its own save too.
Frequently asked questions
Which ARK maps are free?
The Island, The Center, Ragnarok, Valguero, Crystal Isles, Lost Island and Fjordur are free for everyone. Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction and Genesis 1 and 2 need the DLC to join; every map is free to host.
Do I lose my world if I change map?
No. Each map has its own save folder, with its own players and tribes; switching back finds that world again.
Can players take their character to another map?
With transfers on (the Map tab), yes: upload at an obelisk or transmitter on one map, download on the other. Off, each map keeps its own characters.
