How to Join a Factorio Server

Factorio has two ways in: the server's address, which always works, and the public list, for servers that publish themselves. Either way the game checks your version and mods against the server's first.

By address

  1. Open Multiplayer from the main menu.
  2. Choose Connect to address.
  3. Paste the address and port, for example factorio1234.app.runonflux.io:31842, and connect.

From the public list

Browse public games lists servers that publish themselves with a factorio.com token. Search for the server's name.

The checks

  • Version: you must run exactly the server's version. On Steam that is the stable release unless you opted into a beta.
  • Space Age: a server running the expansion only lets in players who own it.
  • Mods: if the server runs mods you do not have, the game offers to download the same set before you join.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Factorio say my version does not match?

Factorio needs the exact same version on the server and on every player. If the server runs stable, switch off any beta in Steam's properties for Factorio; if it runs experimental, switch to the experimental beta there. The dashboard's Game Version tab shows which release the server runs.

Do I need Space Age to join?

Only for a server that runs it. The base game joins any server with Space Age switched off.
