Memory and CPU
Anego Studios' conservative estimate for a dedicated server is 1 GB of RAM plus 300 MB per player, and 4 threads at 1 GHz plus 150 MHz per player. We measured about 1 GB idle on a new world with Vintage Story 1.22.7, 1.3 GB with the Primitive Survival mod, and one to two cores busy while terrain was being generated. Content mods add memory; the view distance (MaxChunkRadius) is the biggest lever on both.
| Players | Typical use | RAM | CPU |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 8 | A small group, lightly modded | 4 GB | 2 vCores |
| Up to 16 | A group of friends with a handful of content mods | 5 GB | 2.5 vCores |
| Up to 24 | A community server, or a big modpack | 8 GB | 4 vCores |
Disk
The server itself is about 330 MB unpacked. A new world is about 11 MB and grows as players explore (60 MB after a thousand chunk columns in our test); a world played for months by a group can reach gigabytes. Mods and backups come on top.
Network
- One port, 42420 by default, for TCP and UDP.
- No query protocol: the server is found by its address, or on the public server list if you list it.
- Every player needs a Vintage Story account; the server checks it with Anego's login server when they join.
