Evolved is not Ascended
ARK: Survival Ascended is a separate game, rebuilt on Unreal Engine 5, not an update to Evolved. A server for one cannot run the other, and an Evolved save does not carry over: Ascended worlds start fresh. So a GPORTAL ARK server is an ARK: Survival Evolved server, whatever the plan says.
What an Ascended server needs that Evolved did not
- Memory. Ascended's server uses around 11 GB on an empty The Island before anyone joins; plans built for Evolved are sized far smaller.
- Crossplay. Ascended lets PlayStation 5 and Xbox players join PC-hosted servers when crossplay is on, which is why console tribes rent one.
- CurseForge mods, instead of the Steam Workshop mods Evolved used.
