How to Set Up a Conan Exiles Enhanced Dedicated Server

Since May 2026 the Conan Exiles dedicated server on Steam is Conan Exiles Enhanced, on Unreal Engine 5, and it runs natively on Linux: no Wine needed any more. There are three ways to run one: by hand, in Docker, or managed on Flux.

Option 1: by hand with SteamCMD

The dedicated server is a free, anonymous download from Steam (application 443030), about 4.3 GB. The default branch is Enhanced; the old game lives on the conan-exiles-legacy branch.

  1. Install SteamCMD, then run: +force_install_dir ./conan +login anonymous +app_update 443030 validate +quit
  2. Create a normal user for it: the Linux server refuses to run as root ("Refusing to run with the root privileges").
  3. Start it: ./ConanSandbox/Binaries/Linux/ConanSandboxServer-Linux-Shipping ConanSandbox -log -Port=7777 -QueryPort=27015 -MaxPlayers=20 -ServerName="My Server"
  4. Its settings are in ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/LinuxServer: ServerSettings.ini (the rules, written on the first start), Engine.ini and Game.ini.
  5. For RCON, write Game.ini yourself: a [RconPlugin] section with RconEnabled=1, RconPassword and RconPort=25575. Anywhere else the log says "Rcon disabled".
  6. Open UDP 7777 and 7778 (the game and Unreal's raw port), UDP 27015 (the Steam query) and TCP 25575 if you use RCON.
Tip:The server is ready when the log says "Started SourceServerQueries on port 27015". A first start creates a new world and can sit on a NavData warning for a while: that is the world loading, not a hang.

Option 2: Docker

runonflux/conanexiles-server-flux, our image (source on GitHub, RunOnFlux/conanexiles-server-flux), installs and updates the server on every start, runs it as an unprivileged user, and writes the ini files from environment variables: CONAN_SERVER_NAME, CONAN_SERVER_PASSWORD, CONAN_ADMIN_PASSWORD, CONAN_MAX_PLAYERS, CONAN_MAP_REGIONS, CONAN_MODS, CONAN_RCON_PASSWORD and the three ports.

  • Mount /mnt/conan/server on a volume for the 4.3 GB install, the Workshop downloads and the logs, and /mnt/conan/data on one for Saved/ (the world and the ini files) and the image's own files (backups, mods list).
  • CONAN_MODS takes Workshop IDs in load order; the image downloads them with SteamCMD and writes modlist.txt.
  • flux-conan rcon <command> runs an RCON command from inside the container, with the password the image keeps.

Option 3: managed on Flux

Deploy a Conan Exiles server on the Flux decentralized cloud, on that same image, with the ports opened and routed for you, DDoS protection included, and a dashboard with every server setting as a form, a PvP schedule, a Mods tab, bans, an RCON console, a file browser and backups. Plans start at $9.49 a month.

  1. Pick the 10, 20 or 40-player plan.
  2. Choose a region close to your players.
  3. Name the server, set a join password if you want one, keep the admin password the form makes for you, and deploy. The first start downloads about 4.3 GB.
  4. Find the server by name under Play Online, or use Direct Connect with the address from the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Conan Exiles dedicated server free?

Yes. It is a free, anonymous download from Steam (application 443030). What costs money is the machine that runs it.

Does the Conan Exiles Enhanced server run on Linux?

Yes, natively. Enhanced ships a Linux build of the server (ConanSandboxServer-Linux-Shipping), so Wine is no longer needed. It must run as a normal user, not root.

How long does a Conan Exiles server take to start?

The first start downloads about 4.3 GB; the world is then up in about 40 seconds. Later starts take 30 to 45 seconds to load the world.
