The Don't Starve Together Cluster Token

A Don't Starve Together dedicated server logs into Klei's servers with a cluster token tied to your Klei account. Without one it does not start: it prints "Your Server Will Not Start" and waits. The token is free and takes a minute.

Make a token on the website

  1. Sign in at accounts.klei.com with your Klei account (or with Steam).
  2. Open Games, then Game Servers, for Don't Starve Together.
  3. Add New Server, give it a name, and copy the token. It is one line that starts with pds-g^KU_.

Or make one in the game

From the main menu, open the console (the key below Esc on a US keyboard layout) and type TheNet:GenerateClusterToken(). The game writes cluster_token.txt in its settings folder (Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether on Windows). The console only opens on that key, so on another keyboard layout switch to US English for a moment, or bind the console to another key in Options, Controls.

Give it to the server

cluster_token.txt in the cluster folder, beside cluster.ini. On Flux, paste it into Klei Cluster Token when you deploy, or into Deployment Settings later: the server writes the file from it on every start.

A token Klei refuses

A mistyped or deleted token makes Klei answer E_INVALID_TOKEN, and a plain server then prints "Your Server Will Not Start" and hangs, never appearing anywhere. Our image watches for that answer, stops the server, shows the reason on the dashboard, and tries again every 15 minutes, so a new token takes effect as soon as it is saved.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Klei cluster token free?

Yes. It is made on your own Klei account at accounts.klei.com, under Games, Game Servers.

Do the Caves need their own token?

No. The token belongs to the cluster, the surface and the Caves together.

What does E_INVALID_TOKEN mean?

Klei did not accept the token: it was mistyped, cut short or deleted from the account. Make a new one and set it.
