Before you start
- Exit the world in the game first, so everything you built is in the save file.
- A world keeps its name. The server loads a world by the name saved inside it, which is also the file's name, so do not rename the file.
- Your characters are not part of the world. They stay on each player's PC, so everyone keeps their own character and joins with it.
Step 1: find your world's save
| Where you played | Where the world is |
|---|---|
| Steam, on your PC | %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames, one .sav file per world, named after it (for example MyWorld.sav) |
| Xbox app or PC Game Pass | No .sav file. The saves are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\JagexLimited.Dominion_srxstwq7wczqa\SystemAppData\wgs, and the dashboard reads that folder for you (see below) |
| A dedicated server on another host | The server's RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames folder. Download the world's .sav with that host's file manager or FTP |
To open the Steam folder, press Windows + R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames and press Enter.
Step 2: set the server's World name
- In your server dashboard, open Deployment Settings.
- Set World name to your world's name: the file name without .sav, with the same spaces and capital letters. Save.
- Wait until the server has restarted with that name. The "How your group joins" card shows the world name the server is running.
This comes first because the server only loads a world under its own name. If the name does not match, the dashboard refuses the upload before it touches anything and tells you the exact World name to set.
Step 3: upload the world
- Open the Backup tab and go to the World snapshots section.
- Click Upload world and pick your .sav file.
- The dashboard stops the server, puts your world in place of the one it was running, and starts the server again by itself.
Once it is back up, your group joins the world by its name from the Public tab, as before.
If you play through the Xbox app or PC Game Pass
- Exit the world and close the game.
- Set World name in Deployment Settings as in step 2, and wait until the server is running with it.
- In the Backup tab, in the World snapshots section, click From Xbox app.
- In the folder picker, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\JagexLimited.Dominion_srxstwq7wczqa\SystemAppData\wgs into the address bar, select the wgs folder and confirm. Your browser then asks whether to upload the folder; allow it.
- The dashboard finds the world with your server's World name, converts it and installs it like a normal upload.
After the move
- The join password comes from the server. A password the world had in the game is replaced by the one in Deployment Settings.
- Every server here runs its world with crossplay on, whatever the world was created with.
- The world keeps its rules: its type, difficulty and PvP. To change them without starting over, use the World Settings tab.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move my existing Dragonwilds world to a dedicated server?
Yes, with every build and all its progress. Set the server's World name to the world's name, then upload its .sav file with Upload world in the Backup tab. The dashboard stops the server, installs the world and starts it again.
Where is my Dragonwilds save file?
On the Steam version, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames, one .sav file per world, named after the world. The Xbox app and PC Game Pass version keeps no .sav; use From Xbox app in the Backup tab instead.
Do my friends keep their characters when the world moves?
Yes. Characters are not part of the world file: they stay on each player's own PC, so everyone joins the moved world with the character they already have.
Why does the dashboard refuse my world upload?
Because the save holds a world with a different name from the one the server runs, and the game only loads a world under its own name. The message tells you the exact World name to set in Deployment Settings; set it, wait for the restart, and upload again.
Can I move my world from Nitrado or GPORTAL?
Yes. Download the world's .sav from the RSDragonwilds/Saved/SaveGames folder on your current host, then upload it here in the same way. Nothing in the world is tied to a host.
