Name, description and password
- name and description: what the public server list shows.
- game_password: the password players type to join. Empty for none.
- max_players: 0, unlimited, by default; admins can always join.
Listing
- visibility.public (on by default): publish the server on Wube's public list. It needs username and token, your factorio.com credentials; without them the server is simply not listed.
- visibility.lan: announce the server on the local network.
- require_user_verification (on): only players with a factorio.com account can join, which every Steam copy has.
Pausing and players
- auto_pause (on): the map stops while nobody is on, so biters do not evolve overnight.
- only_admins_can_pause_the_game (on).
- allow_commands: admins-only by default; "true" lets everyone use console commands. Lua commands switch off achievements for the save.
- afk_autokick_interval: 0 never kicks.
Saves
- autosave_interval: 10 minutes by default.
- autosave_slots: 5 autosaves kept, the oldest replaced first.
- autosave_only_on_server (on): players' games do not save a copy too.
Tip:On Flux these are the Server Settings tab, and a save restarts the server so it reads them. The _comment keys and anything the form does not show are kept as they are.
Frequently asked questions
Where is server-settings.json?
Wherever the server is started with --server-settings. In the factoriotools Docker image, and on Flux, it is config/server-settings.json.
How do I put my Factorio server on the public list?
Set visibility.public to true and add your factorio.com username and token (from your profile on factorio.com) to server-settings.json, then restart.
Should I turn off auto_pause?
Only if you want the factory to keep running with nobody on. With it off, pollution and biter evolution go on around the clock.
