Linking Your Hytale Server to Your Account

The two codes

1. The downloader's: before anything is installed, the server needs your account to download Hytale. It prints a sign-in link and a code.
2. The server's: once the server has booted, it asks again, this time to authenticate itself to Hytale's session service, which is what lets players in.

Both are OAuth device codes: you open the link in your own browser, sign in with the Hytale account that owns the game and approve. Your password never reaches the server. On Flux the dashboard's Hytale Account tab shows each link and code as soon as the server prints it.

When a code expires

Each code is valid for 10 minutes. If the downloader's runs out, the server has nothing to run and stops; start it again and it prints a new one. If the server's runs out, a restart asks again too. On Flux both are one button in the Hytale Account tab.

After that

The server keeps its credentials encrypted on its own volume, so restarts and updates do not ask again. On Flux that volume is synced to a standby node, so a move to another node keeps the link too.

Why a server can ask again

Hytale's sign-in tokens are single-use: every refresh replaces the old one, and using an old one again revokes the whole set. If a server ever starts from an older copy of its credentials, Hytale refuses them and the server asks for a new code. On Flux the Hytale Account tab says so and shows the code.
