Soulmask Dedicated Server Requirements

Soulmask is one of the heavier survival servers to host: its world is full of creatures and it builds its dungeons when it starts. These are the figures we measured on Soulmask 1.0.

Memory

On Cloud Mist Forest with nobody on, the server used about 8.9 GB of RAM, with a peak of 9.5 GB while it loaded. Its own performance report counted over 11,000 creatures in the world. Players, their bases and their tribesmen come on top, so plan well above the idle figure.

20 to startA community server with several tribes14 GB4 vCores
40 to startA busy public server or PvP wars18 GB6 vCores

CPU

Loading the world keeps about one core busy; an idle server used between 0.6 and 1 core. Its own performance report averaged about 25 frames a second with nobody on. Players exploring different areas and big bases are what the extra cores are for.

Disk

The server is about 2.2 GB installed. A fresh world database is about 40 MB and grows with what players build; a compressed backup of a fresh world was about 8.6 MB.

Network

  • UDP 8777 by default: the game.
  • UDP 27015 by default: the Steam query that server lists read.
  • TCP 18888: the maintenance ("echo") console, bound only on the machine itself. Never open it to the internet.

Frequently asked questions

How much RAM does a Soulmask server need?

We measured about 8.9 GB in use with nobody on Cloud Mist Forest (9.5 GB at its peak). Plans on Flux start at 12 GB for that reason; 16 GB is a sensible minimum for a home machine.

Which ports does a Soulmask server use?

UDP 8777 for the game and UDP 27015 for the Steam query by default. The echo console on TCP 18888 stays local.
