How to Join a Team Fortress 2 Server

There are three ways into a community server: the console, the server browser, and Steam's favourites.

The console

  1. In TF2, open Options, Advanced, and tick Enable developer console.
  2. Press the ~ key and type: connect <address>:<port>
  3. If the server has a password, type password <password> first, or answer the prompt.

The Community Server Browser

Play Multiplayer, View Servers, then the Internet tab: search for the server's name. A server appears there only when it logs in with a Steam Game Server Login Token.

Steam favourites

In Steam, View, Game Servers, Favorites, Add a server, with the same address and port. The server is then one click away from Steam and from TF2's Favorites tab.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not find the server in the browser?

It needs a Steam Game Server Login Token to be listed. Until it has one, join with connect and the address.
