How to Install SourceMod Plugins on a TF2 Server

SourceMod is what turns a plain TF2 server into a community server: an admin menu, map votes, and thousands of plugins. Since TF2's server went 64-bit it needs the right builds.

The builds that work on the 64-bit server

SourceMod loads through Metamod:Source. On TF2's 64-bit server, Metamod:Source 1.12 (stable) with SourceMod 1.12 loads with all its stock plugins; in our tests Metamod 2.0's development build did not load SourceMod 1.12 ("Function CreateInterface not found"). Only one Metamod loader may be in tf/addons: metamod_x64.vdf. Two loaders load Metamod twice and SourceMod fails to attach.

Admins

SourceMod reads its admins from addons/sourcemod/configs/admins_simple.ini, one per line: the SteamID, then immunity and flags, e.g. "STEAM_0:1:12345" "99:z". The flag z is everything; b is a generic admin, c kick, d ban, g map change. sm_reloadadmins applies the file without a restart, and !admin in chat opens the menu.

Plugins

  1. Download the compiled .smx (AlliedModders' "Get Plugin" link).
  2. Put it in addons/sourcemod/plugins; some plugins also want files in configs, translations or gamedata.
  3. Load it with sm plugins load <name>.smx, or restart. Its settings appear in cfg/sourcemod after the first load.

Map votes

MapChooser, Nominations and Rock the Vote come with SourceMod, switched off (in plugins/disabled). Move them into plugins and players get a vote near the end of each map and !rtv to change it now, among the maps in your map cycle.

Tip:On Flux, SourceMod is a switch in Deployment Settings: the server installs and updates both on every start, and the SourceMod tab manages admins (with ready-made rights), plugins on and off, and uploads.
