Memory, measured
| What ran | RAM |
|---|---|
| No mods, a small world, nobody on | about 0.75-1 GB |
| Calamity + Calamity Mod Music + Magic Storage + its library, a new large Master world, nobody on | about 1.6 GB |
That is the floor. Memory grows as players explore and build, bosses and events spawn their content, and big mods load their own worlds of items. Hosts commonly size Calamity at 4 GB in play and big modpacks at 6 to 8, which is how the plans below are sized.
CPU
Terraria's world runs on one main thread, so a core's speed matters more than the number of cores. Content mods add enemies, projectiles and world generation; generating a new large Calamity world took about a minute and a half in our test.
Plans
| Plan | CPU | RAM | Storage | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Mods | 1.5 vCores | 3 GB | 15 GB SSD | Vanilla-plus and quality-of-life mods | $4.49/mo |
| Calamity | 2 vCores | 5 GB | 25 GB SSD | One big content mod and its add-ons | $5.49/mo |
| Big Modpacks | 3 vCores | 8 GB | 35 GB SSD | Calamity + Thorium + more, large worlds | $7.99/mo |
Disk
tModLoader itself is about 170 MB. Mods are the rest: Calamity is about 400 MB and its music mod about 700 MB. A large world is a few MB, with a .twld beside it for the modded part.
Software and ports
- The .NET 8 runtime (tModLoader asks for 8.0 exactly).
- Linux x86-64 or Windows. tModLoader has no ARM build.
- One port: 7777, TCP.
Frequently asked questions
How much RAM does a Calamity server need?
In our test Calamity with its music and Magic Storage idled at about 1.6 GB on a new large world; plan for 4 to 5 GB in play, which is our Calamity plan.
How much RAM does a tModLoader server need without big mods?
About a gigabyte with nobody on, measured. 3 GB carries quality-of-life mods and a group comfortably.
