Unturned Server Settings Explained

An Unturned server reads two files from its folder under Servers/: Commands.dat, one command per line, and Config.txt, the gameplay and listing options. Here is which setting lives where.

Commands.dat

LineWhat it does
Name My ServerThe name in the server list
Map PEIThe map: PEI, Washington, Yukon, Russia, Germany or a Workshop map's name
MaxPlayers 24The player limit, up to 200
Password abcA join password
GSLT <token>The login token that lists the server and lets it be joined over the Internet
Owner <SteamID64>Admin rights for that player
Perspective BothFirst, Third, Both or Vehicle
PvENo damage between players
CheatsAdmins may spawn items and vehicles
Mode NormalThe difficulty: Easy, Normal or Hard
Port 27015The first of the two ports
Tip:On Flux these are fields in Deployment Settings, written into Commands.dat every time the server starts. Clearing a field removes its line, except Max Players, which goes back to your plan's figure, and the autosave, which goes back to 10 minutes. Lines you add to the file yourself, for commands the form has no field for, are kept.

Config.txt

Loot, zombie, animal, vehicle and survival settings, decay, gameplay options, the server list's descriptions and icons, scheduled shutdowns and update checks. Every option is listed bare when the server creates the file, which means "the default for this difficulty"; a value after it overrides that one option. The difficulty itself is the Mode command in Commands.dat (Easy, Normal or Hard).

On Flux the most useful options are a form in the Server Settings tab, which writes Default/Config.txt and restarts the server; an emptied field goes back to the default. The file itself, with all of its options, is in the Files tab. Our image changes one option, and only while you have left it at the game's default: Restart for Game Updates (Enable_Update_Shutdown) is switched on, so the server restarts for a new Unturned release instead of locking its players out.

RocketMod plugins

Unturned ships Rocket, the RocketMod plugin framework, inside the server. On Flux it is the RocketMod Plugins setting in Deployment Settings: switched on, the server loads it on every start and creates a Rocket folder beside the world. Upload plugin .dll files to Rocket/Plugins in the Files tab and restart the server; each plugin writes its own settings file in that folder. Rocket's permissions and commands are in Rocket/Permissions.config.xml. Switching it off keeps every plugin and setting, the server just stops loading them.

Saving

There is no autosave setting, because Unturned has no autosave. Our image saves every 10 minutes (Autosave Every, under Advanced) and on every stop.

Frequently asked questions

Yes: Commands.dat and Config.txt are read when the server starts. Deployment Settings redeploys the server for you.
