The Isle RCON and Server Console

The Isle has its own RCON, not Source RCON: a password, then one byte per command. It is how admins and panels run a server without being in game.

Why the RCON must never be public

The Isle's RCON authorises an ADDRESS, not a connection: once one connection from an address gave the right password, later connections from that address were accepted with a wrong password or none (measured, build 24664709). Anyone sharing an admin's home or office address, or a VPN exit, gets in. Keep port 8888 closed and reach the RCON from the server itself.

Tip:Its "server details" command also prints the join password in plain text: never show its reply to anyone.

On Flux

The RCON is never published. The Server Console tab runs each command inside your server: players with message, kick and ban; announcements; save and wipe corpses; the live switches; AI density and growth sliders; the queue; and a command line limited to the commands above.

Frequently asked questions

What port does The Isle RCON use?

The one in Game.ini's RconPort, 8888 by default, over TCP. Do not open it to the internet.

Is The Isle RCON Source RCON?

No. It is the game's own protocol: a byte for login with the password, then a byte per command with its arguments separated by commas.
