How to Add Mods to a tModLoader Server

tModLoader mods live on the Steam Workshop. A server needs each mod you want AND each mod it requires; players then get them all from the server.

On a Flux server

  1. Open the Mods tab and search the Workshop (or paste a mod's link).
  2. Press Add: the panel shows what the mod requires, and adds it all.
  3. Restart the server: it downloads the mods and loads them.

You can also list Workshop IDs in Deployment Settings (Workshop Mods), switch any mod off without removing it, and upload a .tmod for a mod that is not on the Workshop.

What happens under the hood

  • Workshop items download anonymously with SteamCMD (app 1281930).
  • Each item keeps one build per tModLoader release (folders named 2025.7, 2026.6...): the newest one not newer than the server's tModLoader is the one that loads.
  • Mods/enabled.json lists the mod NAMES to load (CalamityMod, not the Workshop ID).
  • A mod whose dependency is not loaded is disabled at start: "Missing mod: X required by Y". The panel warns before that happens.

Mods that only players need

Some mods are client-side (maps, UI tweaks, texture packs): players install them in their own game, and the server does not need them. The Mods tab shows each mod's side.

Frequently asked questions

Does tModLoader install mod dependencies on a server?

Not by itself. Our image reads each Workshop mod's required items and installs them with it.

How do players get the server's mods?

Automatically: tModLoader downloads them from the server when a player joins.
