How to Run an Evrima Community Server for The Isle

The Isle is played on community servers. What brings players back is less the hardware than the community around it: clear rules, fair admins, and a way to talk to each other.

Decide what kind of server it is

  • Realism: local chat only, normal growth, diets and migrations on, strict rules about hunting and grouping.
  • Semi-realism: the same island, with faster growth and global chat so new players settle in.
  • Casual or sandbox: fast growth, spawn codes and region spawning so friends start together.
  • Events: a custom class list (an all-herbivore weekend, a Tyrannosaurus night), announced in game.

The best-settings guide has the Game.ini values for each.

Rules, Discord and staff

Put the rules where players read them: in your Discord and in the server's name or description. The server offers your Discord invite to players in game. Make your staff admins by SteamID64; admins have the game's admin tools in game.

Keep the bad actors out

Ban with a reason and a length: a day for a first offence, a week, a month, or permanently. In The Isle a ban is a number of hours, so "permanent" is a very long one. For an application-only community, turn the whitelist on and add players as you accept them.

Events and announcements

Announcements appear on every player's screen: use them for mass migrations, events and restarts. Changing the playable classes for an event is a list of tick boxes on Flux, applied on a restart.
