Enshrouded Dedicated Server Requirements

Planning an Enshrouded server? These are the hardware, network, and port requirements you need for a smooth co-op experience, broken down by how many players you want to support — and mapped to the ready-made Flux hosting plans.

Quick answer

An Enshrouded dedicated server needs about 5 GB of RAM for the server process, never more than 6 GB by Keen Games' own figures, and a CPU that grows with the group: a few cores for a small one, and the 8 cores Keen recommends for a full 16 player world. It also needs its UDP port open (15637 by default) and around 15 to 30 GB of fast SSD storage. Enshrouded is far more CPU sensitive than bandwidth sensitive, so prioritise cores and clock speed.

CPU requirements

Enshrouded world simulation — terrain deformation, physics, and AI — runs largely on the CPU, and it favours per-core speed as much as core count. Keen Games recommends 6 cores for 4 to 6 players and 8 cores for a full 16, so a group building and fighting at the same time needs more cores than a quiet two-player world. Under-powered CPUs show up as rubber-banding and delayed resource harvesting rather than low frame rates, because the server tick can no longer keep pace with the players.

RAM requirements by player count

Memory is easier to plan than the CPU. Keen Games' Dedicated Server FAQ puts the server process at about 4.4 GB idle, plus up to 100 MB for each player, and says it should not use more than 6 GB in total. Use this table as a baseline for the memory the server itself needs:

PlayersRecommended RAMFlux plan
Up to 25 GBSmall group (5 GB, 3 vCores)
Up to 45 GBMedium group (7 GB, 5 vCores)
4 to 65 GBLarge group (8 GB, 6 vCores)
Up to 166 GBFull server (9 GB, 8 vCores)

On your own machine, leave room for the operating system on top: Keen's recommended machine has 16 GB in total. A bigger group mostly asks for more CPU, not more memory, which is why each Flux tier adds cores rather than gigabytes.

Storage requirements

The server binaries are small, but save files, backups, and logs accumulate over a long-lived world. Budget 10 GB minimum and 30 GB for a comfortable margin, and strongly prefer SSD or NVMe storage — world saves are written frequently, and slow disks turn autosaves into visible hitches. Every Flux plan uses SSD/NVMe storage.

Network and port requirements

Enshrouded is not bandwidth-intensive; a stable connection with 10+ Mbps upload comfortably serves a full lobby. Latency matters more than raw throughput, which is why choosing a server region close to your players is the single biggest connection-quality lever. What you must get right is the port:

PortProtocolPurpose
15637UDPQuery port: the server list and all game traffic

It must be reachable from the internet. If it is blocked or not forwarded, your server simply will not appear in the browser and friends cannot connect. The server also talks to Steam on the ports in Valve's Required Ports for Steam article; those are outgoing connections, which a home router allows by default. A managed Flux server gets a port of its own, opened and routed for you, so there is no router configuration to do.

Operating system

The Enshrouded dedicated server is a Windows application. It runs on Windows Server 2016 or newer directly, and on Linux through Proton/Wine — the approach managed hosts use. If you self-host on Linux, install the 32-bit libraries SteamCMD needs; if you host on Flux, the OS layer is handled for you.

How Flux plans map to these requirements

Rather than sizing hardware yourself, each Flux plan is pre-matched to a player tier: 5 GB RAM and 3 vCores for up to 2 players, 7 GB and 5 vCores for up to 4, 8 GB and 6 vCores for 4 to 6, and 9 GB and 8 vCores for the full 16. Every plan runs on SSD/NVMe storage with the ports and OS handled. Plans start at $7.49/month with the first week free.

Frequently asked questions

What are the requirements for an Enshrouded dedicated server?

About 5 GB of RAM for the server process (Keen says it should not use more than 6 GB), a CPU that grows with the group up to the 8 cores Keen recommends for 16 players, 15 to 30 GB of SSD storage and an open UDP port (15637 by default). Enshrouded is more sensitive to CPU than to bandwidth.

How much RAM does an Enshrouded server need?

About 4.4 GB idle plus up to 100 MB per player, so roughly 5 GB for up to 4 players and 6 GB for a full 16. Keen Games says the server process should not use more than 6 GB. A bigger group needs more CPU rather than more memory.

How many players can an Enshrouded server support?

Enshrouded supports up to 16 players on a single dedicated server.

What ports does an Enshrouded server need?

One: the query port, UDP 15637 by default. It must be open and reachable from the internet, or the server will not appear in the browser. The separate game port (15636) that older guides mention was removed in Content Update #2.

Can an Enshrouded server run on Linux?

Yes, through Proton/Wine, since the server is a Windows application. Managed hosts including Flux run it this way; self-hosting on Linux needs the 32-bit libraries SteamCMD depends on.
