Counter-Strike 2 Dedicated Server Requirements

A CS2 server is light on memory at rest and heavy on disk. These are the figures we measured on the Linux server, build 1.41.9.1.

Memory and CPU

An empty server sleeps (it hibernates when nobody is on) at about 1.1 GB of RAM and 3 % of one core. With 15 bots awake and six plugins loaded it used 1.3 GB and about a quarter of a core. We have not measured a full 64-player server, so the plans size memory and cores with room to spare rather than to a measured limit.

Plan (starting players)Typical useRAMCPU
10 PlayersScrims, retakes, a small community3 GB2 vCores
24 PlayersA busy community server with plugins4.5 GB3 vCores
64 PlayersFull 64-player servers6 GB4 vCores
Tip:The player count on each plan is where Max Players starts, not a limit: you can change it yourself in Deployment Settings, up to the game's own maximum of 64.

Disk

The game is about 70 GB installed and a 73 GB download. Game updates, Workshop maps, plugins and logs come on top, so the plans have 100 to 120 GB. Fast local storage matters: the server reads the game's files at every map change.

Network

  • One port, 27015 by default: UDP for the game and the Steam query, TCP for RCON when you turn it on (it is off without an RCON password).
  • A Game Server Login Token (App ID 730) to be listed in the community server browser.
  • A fast connection for the first install: 73 GB takes about an hour and a half at 100 Mbit/s.
