Memory and CPU
The base is small: with a world loaded and nobody playing the server holds about 1.1 GB of RAM. Players add to that, and we have not measured a full crew yet. Our 6-player plan has 5 GB and 2 dedicated cores, and each step up adds both.
Under Wine the sync primitive matters most: without fsync or esync the same server spends about 40% more CPU. Ours runs Wine with fsync on every plan. If your crew outgrows a plan, the Hardware tab adds CPU, RAM or disk to the running server.
Hardware by plan
| Plan | CPU | RAM | Storage | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 Players | 2 vCores | 5 GB | 15 GB SSD | $5.49/mo |
| 12 Players | 3 vCores | 8 GB | 20 GB SSD | $7.99/mo |
| 24 Players | 4 vCores | 12 GB | 25 GB SSD | $9.99/mo |
Disk
The install is about 2.8 GB, plus about half a gigabyte for Wine's prefix on Linux. A world is a handful of WorldSave files that grow with the base; backups, and the game's own rolling backups, take the rest.
Ports
| Argument | Default | Protocol | What for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PORT (game) | 7777 | UDP | Game traffic: what players join on |
| QUERYPORT | 27015 | UDP | Steam's server query: the server list, Steam favourites and A2S |
Both must be reachable from the internet. The server binds exactly the ports it is given, so the numbers must be the same outside and inside.
Frequently asked questions
How much RAM does an Abiotic Factor server need?
About 1.1 GB for the server itself, plus room for your players. Our plans have 5 GB for 6 players, 8 GB for 12 and 12 GB for 24, and you can add RAM later if your crew needs it.
What ports does an Abiotic Factor server use?
Two UDP ports: the game port (7777 by default) and the Steam query port (27015).
