The First Annual Block Reward Reduction Arrives at Block 3,071,200
Fluxers! One year after Flux moved to Proof of Node, the network reaches its first scheduled milestone: at block 3,071,200, the block reward reduces by 10%, from 14 FLUX to 12.6 FLUX per block. At the current block pace, that lands on Monday 26 October 2026, around 16:00 UTC.
Nothing needs to be done by anyone. The reduction is written into the consensus rules of the Flux daemon, and every node applies it automatically at the same block.
What changes at block 3,071,200
Each block keeps paying a node in every tier, every 30 seconds, and the split between tiers stays exactly the same. Each amount simply becomes 90% of what it was:
- Stratus: 9 FLUX → 8.1 FLUX per block
- Nimbus: 3.5 FLUX → 3.15 FLUX per block
- Cumulus: 1 FLUX → 0.9 FLUX per block
- Flux Foundation: 0.5 FLUX → 0.45 FLUX per block
Across a day of 2,880 blocks, new issuance goes from about 40,320 FLUX to about 36,288 FLUX; across a year, from about 14.7 million to about 13.2 million FLUX.
A schedule set in code, not by discretion
When Flux forked to Proof of Node at block 2,020,000 in October 2025, it replaced abrupt halvings with a measured curve: a reward that reduces by 10% every 1,051,200 blocks — exactly one year of 30-second blocks. The rule is three constants in the daemon’s consensus code: an initial reward of 14 FLUX, the one-year interval, and twenty reductions in total.
That makes the next twenty years of issuance predictable to the block. A few milestones along the way:
- October 2027: 11.34 FLUX per block
- October 2030: about 8.27 FLUX per block
- October 2035: about 4.88 FLUX per block
- October 2045: the twentieth and final reduction, to about 1.70 FLUX per block
After the twentieth reduction, the reward settles at that small fixed amount — about 1.79 million FLUX a year — so issuance as a share of supply keeps trending toward zero while the network always pays the machines that secure it. The full arithmetic, block by block, is in the Flux v9 whitepaper.
Usage takes over from emission
A declining block reward is only half of the picture. The other half is what the network earns. Every app deployed on Flux is paid for, and with Progressive Node Rewards (PNR), that usage flows back to the operators. From 1 July 2027, at block 3,787,502, consensus takes 20% of every application payment into a pool that pays node operators, spread over a rolling thirty days. As issuance steps down each year, real demand for compute becomes an ever larger share of what a FluxNode earns. We explained how in Progressive Node Rewards: When Usage Starts Paying the Machines.
That is the direction for any healthy network: rewards that start generous to bootstrap the hardware, and shift steadily toward rewards paid by customers. With more than 2,000 applications already running across thousands of nodes, the demand side is growing fast.
For node operators
- No action needed. No update, no restart, no configuration change.
- Same rhythm. Blocks every 30 seconds, with a node in every tier paid on every block.
- Live numbers. Earnings by tier are on the FluxCloud rewards dashboard, and our guide How to Run a FluxNode in 2026 covers everything else.
One year of Proof of Node, the first step down on a curve written into code, and a network increasingly paid by the people who use it. Here is to the next twenty.
