Why Host Your Icarus Server on Flux?

A prospect is a long project: the outpost you built, the mining line, the base that finally survives the storms. Played peer to peer, it lives on the host's PC and stops when they log off. A dedicated Icarus server keeps it there for the whole crew, whoever is playing, and the game itself is free to host.

Every plan has dedicated vCores and memory reserved for your server on a decentralized cloud of thousands of independent nodes across 50+ countries. The plans, 4, 6 and 8 players, have 10, 14 and 18 GB with 3, 4 and 5 cores, and Max Players can go up to the game's 8 on any of them.

The fiddly parts are handled. Every server setting is a field in a form, with the game's own default. Keep several prospects, switch between them, or upload one from your own game. Add your admins by SteamID, keep a ban list, and share the admin password with the people you trust. A server behind the game refuses players, so this one checks Steam every 30 minutes and restarts onto a new build as soon as nobody is playing.

One thing to know: the Icarus server cannot be told to save. It autosaves every 5 minutes by default, so a stop or a restart can lose up to that. The daily restart and game updates wait for an empty server for that reason.

You still get an ordinary management panel: a file browser, a live terminal and backups. Plans start at $8.49/month, billing is pay-as-you-go with no contract, and your prospects are downloadable whenever you want them.

We don't sell player slots. The player count of a plan is the number its CPU and RAM are sized for, not a cap. Max Players starts there and you can raise it up to the game's 8 on any plan, in Deployment Settings or the Server Settings tab. A crowded server with big bases needs the bigger plans.

*The first week is free for customers new to Flux Cloud: one free week per account, not per app or per server. It takes no card and ends on its own after 7 days unless you choose to keep the server. If you've deployed any app on Flux before, standard pricing applies. Our 30-day money-back guarantee covers your first paid month, whether or not you took the free week first.

Icarus Server Features Explained

Every setting, without the files

An Icarus server takes its identity from launch arguments and its behaviour from ServerSettings.ini. Here the name, the admin and join passwords, the player limit, what the server does when nobody is on, who may start prospects, the autosave and the respawn options are fields, each with the game's own default. The ports are the deployment's, because the server binds exactly the ones the network publishes.

Prospects, including your own

The server keeps every prospect as a file of its own and plays one. Switch between them with a click, download any of them, or upload one from your own game: it is checked and lands under its own name, never over a prospect. A new server waits in its lobby, where the first player starts a prospect. Up to 8 players, the game's own maximum, on any plan: the plan's player count is what its hardware is sized for, not a cap.

Admins and bans

The admin password is required, so only people you tell can become admins with /AdminLogin. Add moderators by SteamID so they need no password, keep the ban list, and see who is online with their SteamID. Kicks and bans themselves are typed in the game's chat by an admin: the panel lists the commands.

Autosaves, backups and updates

The game saves by itself every five minutes by default (you can change it) and cannot be told to save sooner, so a restart can lose that much; the panel shows when the prospect was last saved. Every prospect is also backed up on start and every six hours. A server running an older build than the players refuses them, so this one checks Steam every 30 minutes and restarts onto a new build as soon as nobody is playing, or within the hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our hosting service

$8.49/month for 4 players (3 vCores, 10 GB of RAM, 25 GB of storage), $10.99/month for 6 players (4 vCores, 14 GB, 30 GB) and $12.99/month for the game's full 8 players (5 vCores, 18 GB, 35 GB). Billing is pay-as-you-go with no long-term contract.
Up to 8, the most the game allows. A plan's player count is the number its CPU and RAM are sized for, not a cap: Max Players starts there and you can raise it up to 8 on any plan, in Deployment Settings or the Server Settings tab. If your crew is crowded or your bases are large, step up a plan.
In Icarus, choose Join Session in the HAB menu, switch the browser (top right) to dedicated servers, and join the server by its name, typing the password if you set one. The dashboard also shows the address and the game and query ports.
A new server waits in its lobby. Join it from the game and pick a mission, an outpost or the open world there; the game saves it as a prospect and the Prospects tab lists it. Anyone can start one by default, and you can limit that to admins in Server Settings. The server cannot create a prospect on its own.
Not by the stop itself, and we say so plainly: the Icarus server cannot be told to save. It autosaves every 5 minutes by default (you can change that in Server Settings), and a stop, a restart or a crash can lose what happened since the last autosave. The daily restart and game updates wait for an empty server, but restarting in the middle of a session costs that window. Every prospect is also backed up on start and every six hours.
Yes. Close the game, find the prospect's .json file (under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Icarus\Saved\PlayerData\<your SteamID>\Prospects on Windows), and upload it in the Prospects tab. It is added next to your other prospects, never over one; press Play on it to switch the server to it.
