Icarus Server Settings: ServerSettings.ini Explained

An Icarus server takes its identity from launch arguments and its behaviour from one file, ServerSettings.ini. On Flux every key of it is a field in the Server Settings tab, with the game's own default beside it.

The launch arguments

ArgumentDefault on FluxWhat it does
-SteamServerNameIcarus ServerThe name players see in the server browser (up to 64 characters)
-Port17777The game port (UDP). Set by the deployment on Flux: the server binds exactly the ports it is given
-QueryPort27015The Steam query port (UDP): the server list and Steam favourites
-MaxPlayers4 / 6 / 8 by planPlayers at once, from 1 to 8
-LoadProspect(set by the image)The prospect file to load at start; on Flux the Prospects tab chooses it

ServerSettings.ini

The file sits in Icarus/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ and the server reads it as it starts. On Flux the Server Settings tab edits these lines in place and restarts the server; a key you do not change keeps the game's own value. The prospect keys (LoadProspect, CreateProspect, ResumeProspect, LastProspectName) are managed by the image and chosen in the Prospects tab.

SettingDefault on FluxRangeWhat it does
SessionNameIcarus ServerWhat players see in the in-game server browser. Up to 64 characters (the Steam limit), no quotes.
JoinPassword(none)Players type it to join. No spaces or quotes. Empty: anyone who finds the server can join.
AdminPassword(none)A player types /AdminLogin <password> in the game chat to become an admin. No spaces or quotes. Keep one set: with none, anyone can become an admin.
MaxPlayers81 to 8How many players can be on at once, 1 to 8 (the game's limit). Your plan names the number its CPU and RAM are sized for; you can set more.
ShutdownIfNotJoinedFor-1-1 (never), or 0 to 604800 secondsAfter a start, how long the server waits for the first player before it drops its prospect and goes back to the lobby. -1: never, the prospect stays loaded. The game is paused while it waits.
ShutdownIfEmptyFor-1-1 (never), or 0 to 604800 secondsHow long an empty server keeps its prospect before going back to the lobby. -1: never. The game is paused while the server is empty.
AllowNonAdminsToLaunchProspectsonon / offIn the lobby, any player can start or load a prospect. Off: only admins (/AdminLogin) can.
AllowNonAdminsToDeleteProspectsoffon / offAny player in the lobby can delete a prospect from the server. Off: only admins can.
GameSaveFrequency51 to 1440The game's own autosave of the running prospect. The server cannot be told to save, so a stop or a restart loses at most this much play. Shorter saves more often (a large prospect is a bigger write every time).
SaveGameOnExitonon / offThe game's own option to save when it exits. A stop of the container ends the game without letting it act (measured), so do not rely on it: the autosave is what protects the prospect.
FiberFoliageRespawnonon / offFibre foliage grows back after it is harvested.
LargeStonesRespawnonon / offLarge stones come back after they are mined.
Tip:Passwords cannot contain spaces or quotes. Changing any setting takes a restart, which does not save first: the game cannot be told to save, so what happened since its last autosave is lost.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Icarus ServerSettings.ini?

In Icarus/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ of the server install. The server writes it on its first start, and RocketWerkz also publishes a sample. On Flux the panel edits it for you.

Do I have to restart after changing a setting?

Yes. The server reads the file as it starts; the panel restarts it for you when you save. The restart does not save the prospect first: the game cannot be told to save, so what happened since its last autosave (every 5 minutes by default) is lost.

What do ShutdownIfEmptyFor and ShutdownIfNotJoinedFor do?

They send the server back to its lobby after that many seconds with nobody on, or with nobody having joined since the start. -1 means never, so the prospect stays loaded; that is the default on Flux. While the server waits, the game is paused.
