How the settings are grouped
The file has six sections (General, World, Respawn, Vehicles, Damage and Features), which are too coarse to work with: World alone holds more than half the keys. The Server Settings tab groups them further: server, wipes and clean-up, time of day, players and sessions, respawn, vehicles, damage, encounters and hordes, enemies and NPCs, animals and fishing, bunkers and keycards, cargo drops, map and world, features.
The settings to look at first
- scum.ServerName and scum.ServerPassword: what players see, and the password to join.
- scum.MaxPlayers: the file ships with 64.
- scum.ServerPlaystyle: the label the server shows (the file ships with PVE).
- scum.PartialWipe, scum.GoldWipe and scum.FullWipe: wipes that happen when the server next starts. Turn them off again after the restart.
- scum.StartTimeOfDay and scum.TimeOfDaySpeed: when a fresh world starts and how fast the clock runs.
- The respawn prices and cooldowns, the damage multipliers and the encounter multipliers, to taste.
Changing them on a Flux server
The Server Settings tab lists every key the game's file has, with the game's own default beside any value you change and a reset to it. Saving edits the file and restarts the server, which takes about two minutes. The tab refuses a value of the wrong type (a number where a switch is wanted, a time that is not HH:MM:SS) before it touches the file.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the SCUM server config file?
SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini under the server's install. On Flux it is in the Server Settings tab.
Do setting changes need a restart?
Yes. The panel saves the file and restarts the server, so the game starts with the new settings.
