SCUM Dedicated Server Requirements

These are measured on the real server, not copied from a wiki. SCUM is memory-hungry before anyone joins, so RAM is the figure to plan around.

What an idle server uses

WhatMeasured
RAM with the world loaded and nobody on10.6 GB (10.2 GB at load, flat for 9 hours)
CPU idlea third of a core (the server idles at 5 ticks a second)
Install15.5 GB, plus about 0.5 GB for the Wine prefix on Linux
Time to load the islandabout 90 seconds on 4 cores
Stopping it3.3 seconds
Tip:Memory and CPU grow with the crowd, so the plans below are sized with room above the idle figure, and a busy server wants the next plan up. For comparison, on 2026-10-29 other SCUM hosts sold 12 GB at $23.99, 16 GB at $31.99 and 24 GB at $47.99 (Game Host Bros), and 10 GB at $12.99, 14 GB at $18.99, 18 GB at $24.99 and 22 GB at $29.99 (Cybrancee).

Ports

PortNumberProtocolWhat for
-port (game)7777UDPGame traffic: what players join on
game port + 27779TCPThe game's own info responder (measured: the only other socket the loaded server opens)

The server binds the game port you give it with -port= and uses that port plus two. It answers no Steam query on any port. On Flux the three ports 7777, 7778 and 7779 are published as one block, and the block is moved together.

A plan's player count is where Max Players starts, not a cap: you can set a higher number.

Frequently asked questions

How much RAM does a SCUM server need?

About 10.6 GB with the world loaded and nobody on it, measured. Plan for 14 GB or more for a small community, and more as it grows.

How much disk does a SCUM server need?

15.5 GB for the install, plus the save, which grows with play, and room for backups. Our plans have 35 to 50 GB.
