How to Join a Dedicated Server for The Forest

Players find a dedicated server by its name in the game, or add its address to Steam. Both need the server and the game on the same version.

From the game

  1. Start The Forest and open Multiplayer, then Join Game.
  2. Find the server by its name in the list (type part of it into the search if the list is long).
  3. Enter the password if the server has one, and join.

Through Steam's server browser

In Steam, open View, Game Servers, Favourites, Add a server, and enter the address with the QUERY port (27016 by default; the Overview tab of your dashboard lists the one your server uses). The server then appears in the favourites list and in the game's list.

Joining as an admin

The join token the game sends carries the join password and the admin password. A player who joins with the right admin password is an admin on that server and can use the chat commands described in the admins guide.

Tip:If the server does not appear, see "server not showing up": a game update the server has not caught up with is the usual reason.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not find my server for The Forest in the list?

Most often the server and the game are on different versions after an update, or the server is still starting. Wait a minute after it says running, check the version, and try the Steam favourites route with the query port.
