The Forest Server Admins

The Forest has no remote console and no admin list. A player is an admin on a server because they joined with the admin password, and from then on they can use a handful of commands in the game's chat.

Becoming an admin

  1. Set serverPasswordAdmin in config.cfg (on Flux: the Admin Password field in Deployment Settings, or the Server Settings tab) and restart the server.
  2. Join the server, entering the admin password as the admin password in the join screen.
  3. Type /help in the game's chat to see the commands.

The commands

CommandWhat it does
/kick <steamId>Removes a player
/ban <steamId>Bans a player
/save <slotNum>Saves the world to a slot now
/restartRestarts the server
/shutdownStops the server
/treeregrowmode, /allowbuildingdestruction, /allowenemiescreative <on|off>Switches those rules while the server runs
/openlogs, /closelogsShows or hides the server's event log in the chat
Tip:Bans are kept by the game itself and cannot be edited from outside the game, so the dashboard has no ban list. Leave the admin password empty and nobody can use these commands.

Frequently asked questions

Can I manage a server for The Forest without being in the game?

The server has no remote console, so kicks, bans and manual saves need a player in the game with the admin password. Everything else is in the dashboard: settings, save slots, backups, restarts and the live log.
